There are more than 1,800 types of brittle starfish around the world, making them the second largest group of the family that makes up starfish, echinoderms. The brittle star differs from its cousin, the sea star, in that it uses its "tube feet" more in feeling its way around the reef instead of pure locomotion. They feed on many things, including bacteria, algae and larval fish. |
