If you weren't careful, you would miss many of the more beautiful small fish on the reef. We tried to move slowly and give all of the reef animals a chance to get used to our presence. But the divemasters insisted on moving us along. Still, we managed to see many smaller tropicals such as this saddled butterflyfish. One of our books said that "scientific studies reveal that pairs [of these fish] frequently last for a lifetime (estimated 8-15 years)." They eat algae, sponges, coral polyps and crustaceans. |
